Letters Page: 22 July 2024
Here is another article where we publish the best comments we’ve received.
Since the last Letters Page, we have published articles on the English Summer and the Agrarians.
The article writing about the English Summer weather created a bit of a ‘storm’.
Havakuk restacked a part of the article which resonated with them:
The English are deeply affected by the weather!
They are 100% correct. We never stop talking about it.
Hilary White, who writes the Sacred Images Project said:
One of the wettest coldest summer holiday, I have ever taken was the August bank holiday weekend in Tenby. Great fun though.
Even though Tenby is in Wales, I agree that some parts of England can be equally as wet.
And our fellow contributor Catholic Pilgrim wrote
When shivering in the cold and rain today, I checked the forecast for St Swithun‘s day. Dry with a bit of sun. Last year we had rain and it hasn't stopped raining since, so if the forecast stays the same, I am optimistic!
Like CP, we were all hoping for good weather. But on St Swithun’s Day, it was overcast with a little rain. So far this Summer, I would say this is the general trend. Looks like it will be a ‘Jumper Summer’.
Hadden’s wonderful article on the Agrarians was well received by our readership.
Fellow contributor, Paul Bindweed wrote -
“Fantastic little article. You managed to include all the Agrarian Greats. There's also a hundred or more forgotten 20th Century writers whose titles currently lie on dusty shelves in 2nd bookshops or in boxes up in attics. Without bothering to go upstairs and check, the names Fred Kitchen & J. Blyton come to mind. Get hold of Massingham's books before they get ridiculously expensive.”
We found Hadden’s article inspiring. We’d encourage you to read it if you haven’t yet already.
If this poor Summer weather continues, we will publish an article on the traditional English cocoa next. If it improves, we will begin to look at what is English Cultural Heritage and why is it important.
Thank you for all your kind comments. They are most appreciated.
